This blog is being written from my hotel room in Calgary. It has been a bit of a crazy week, with a lot of high stakes Omaha action. Unfortunately I did not come out ahead for the trip but I managed to keep my losses to a minimum at the very least. They play poker differently out here and I enjoyed meeting the people I met and learning the lessons I did. Talking with my sister really cemented in my mind the idea that life as a professional poker player is not what I want but it is so difficult to find gainful employment that compares with what I have experienced. The freedom and lifestyle that comes with my current occupation will be difficult to match.
Tomorrow I fly home. My plan is to start a restaurant with my friend Dylan Verhulst. The goal is to provide inexpensive and extremely healthy food and we will keep costs low with a minimum of overhead and doing all of the labour ourselves. My belief is that we can do a great service to the public by offering more than your typical lunch counter and Dylan is an experienced chef who is more than capable of running a restaurant. We want to specialize in vegetables, because they are the healthiest of all the foods and I would like to have as expansive a menu as possible and be willing to go off menu in a heart beat.
Politically I am eying a bid for London North Center as an independent politician. My views are fairly radical, being an anarcho-capitalist, and perhaps no one will vote for me, but I think that if I go door to door and tell people what I want to do (which is go to Queens Park and vote No when the government tries to raise taxes or spend money on projects to enrich their friends or further regulate our lives and our businesses) there is a chance I will get a lot of votes. Recently I ran for mayor, and my campaign was a bit of a failure but that was entirely my fault. I didn't fight hard enough. I also challenged Elizabeth May, the leader of the green party, to a debate.
Well, I guess that sort of sums up my life for now. Thank you for reading my blog, and please do not hesitate to post any comments here or e-mail me at canadianliberty@hotmail.com
